Negotiating successfully

I have mentioned the ATA’s Blog for new translators before, and the latest post is a re-post from about negotiating for freelancers and it is really good!

It lists seven points you should keep in mind when entering into a negotiation:

  1. Be ready to say no
  2. Plan to aim high
  3. Start on common ground
  4. Never show your cards
  5. Be the first person to throw out a (high) number
  6. Con’t rush into a “solution”
  7. Be prepared to walk away

I just attended a webinar by the wonderful and inspiring Tess Whitty on how to up your game, including increasing your rates, and what Tess said is reflected here, too.

To read the whole article, just click here – and then go out there confidently and negotiate what you’re worth!
