I have no idea how it ended up in there, especially since no-one in my husband&#8217;s family has or had any affinity for foreign languages, plus the name in the cover is not a relative. But however it found its way onto this attic in the wilderness of the Franconian Switzerland, I am very excited that it did!<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/musik.a-z-translation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hinnerichs-1024x795.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"497\" src=\"https:\/\/musik.a-z-translation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hinnerichs-1024x795.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nPrinted in 1946 by Sebaldus-Verlag N\u00fcrnberg, number of copies printed unknown, although there are some to be had via Amazon and antiquarian bookshops, and not very expensive at that.<\/p>\n<p>The preface explains what it is and why it was published:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\">\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify; text-indent: 12.0pt;\">\n<i><span lang=\"EN-US\">This <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\">book<b>, \u201c<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">printed as<br \/>\nmanuscript\u201d, contains a collection (about 25,000 key words) of personal notes<br \/>\njotted down by an interpreter and translator in the course of his everyday<br \/>\npractice. It was not originally intended for publication, but, as it will be some<br \/>\ntime before any of the well-known dictionaries can be re-issued, I decided to<br \/>\ngive way to the numerous requests for having <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\">this book<b> <\/b><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">printed as it<br \/>\nstands.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify; text-indent: 12.0pt;\">\n<i><span lang=\"EN-US\">The<br \/>\nexpressions given in this book cover principally administration, legal practice,<br \/>\nfood and agriculture, trade and industries, and the engineering, botanical,<br \/>\nchemical, anatomical and pharmaceutical professions, as well as the names of<br \/>\ndrugs, etc. To some key-words, such as for instance, \u201cAr\u00e4ometer\u201d, \u201cCalorien\u201d, \u201cHormone\u201d,<br \/>\n\u201cPenicillin\u201d, \u201cStreptomycin\u201d, \u201cVitamine\u201d, explanations have been added, which far<br \/>\nexceed the usual practice in dictionaries, giving this book more the character<br \/>\nof an encyclopedia. Furthermore, a number of charts and conversion tables for<br \/>\nweights, measures, etc., have been included. So as not to disturb the clear<br \/>\narrangement and alphabetical order of the book, such explanations of key-words<br \/>\nare separately boxed.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify; text-indent: 12.0pt;\">\n<i><span lang=\"EN-US\">Something<br \/>\nquite new is the collection of abbreviations coined during the Nazi-regime, such<br \/>\nas \u201cReichsschrifttumskammer\u201d, \u201cNS-Hago\u201d<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\">, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">etc., which,<br \/>\nas far as is known, have not been included before in any dictionary and which<br \/>\nare <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">often difficult to translate into the Anglo-American<br \/>\nlanguage.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify; text-indent: 12.0pt;\">\n<i><span lang=\"EN-US\">I wish to<br \/>\nexpress my appreciation to the American officers and officials, especially to<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> Major Krotcher, Capt. Kinard, 1st Lt. Thacker and Tec.Sgt. Much,<br \/>\nwho sacrificed their time in clearing<br \/>\nup some expressions, also to Mr. Speier of<\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\"> <\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">the MAN, N\u00fcrnberg, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\">who<b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">contributed a long list of technical expressions, as well as to the<br \/>\npublishers and the C.H. Beck\u2019sche Buchdruckerei <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">at N\u00f6rdlingen,<br \/>\nwho co-operated splendidly to ensure a very nice make-up <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\">of <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the book, in <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">spite of<br \/>\nthe untold difficulties that had to be overcome in obtaining materials, etc.,<br \/>\nand, finally, to Mr. R. K\u00fcger,<br \/>\nlecturer at N\u00f6rdlingen, who devoted his costly time in giving expert advice to<br \/>\nimprove the book. I take this opportunity<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: &quot;Helvetica, sans-serif&quot;;\"> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">to thank<br \/>\nvery sincerely also the many unnamed contributors to this dictionary.<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm; text-align: justify; text-indent: 12.0pt;\">\n<i><span lang=\"EN-US\">Suggestions regarding improvements or additions will be gratefully<br \/>\naccepted.
