\nSince I’m on a mini-vacation again this week, here’s an excerpt from an excellent post from the myGengo blog<\/a> on how to judge the quality of a translation:<\/i><\/p>\n

Before submitting<\/b>
\nPrior to submitting your text to be translated, make sure you give the
\ntranslator proper context. In addition to giving a brief summary
\ndetailing what the intentions for the translation are, also be sure to
\nguide the translator on the *type* of language you are hoping for; i.e.
\nis this a business report that requires a more formal wording, or is
\nthis a video-game translation that could contain a more fun, casual
\nlanguage?<\/p>\n

Machine translation check<\/b>
\nIf you’re not sure whether to trust the translator you’ve chosen, do
\nsome due-diligence and paste your source text into popular machine
\ntranslation tools such as Google Translate<\/a>
\n and make sure your translator did not submit a machine translation
\nverbatim. It only takes 30 seconds to complete and it’s better to be
\nsafe.<\/p>\n

A second set of eyes<\/b>
\nDo you have friends or coworkers who are native speakers of your target
\n language? Use a little social capital and ask them to take a quick look
\n to make sure that your translation was done by a native
\nspeaker. Sometimes they will notice small mistakes (spelling,
\npunctuation, etc.) and you can then request corrections from your
\ntranslator. Bear in mind however that language can often be subjective,
\nand each speaker you ask may have a different opinion on what the \u00abbest
\ntranslation\u00bb of a particular sentence is.   In the end, feedback from
\nyour own users will be the one of the best resources in evaluating the
\nquality of your translations. After all, Japanese users of your iPhone
\nApp localized  know the exact context of the translation, and are the
\nbest to judge what slang or specialized language is appropriate.<\/p>\n

Proofread<\/b>
\nFor crucial content, it’s always best to have a second professional
\ntranslator take a look. If you use freelance translators, a good
\npractice is hiring at least two translators for each target language and
\n having them alternate between translator and proofreader roles. <\/p>\n

Preferred translator<\/b>
\nAfter you have taken all of these steps to check the quality of your
\ntranslation, be sure to remember the translators whose work passed all
\nof these tests and keep them on the short list for future jobs. Not only
\n is attention to detail and accuracy important, but also their
\nresponsiveness to your comments. Did they ask follow-up questions, or
