That why I am glad colleagu<span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">e <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrdias.com\/index-eng.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jo<\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrdias.com\/index-eng.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00e3o Roque Dias<\/a> has compiled a great website with all sorts of information and helpful links and examples on translator scams and identity theft, available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrdias.com\/jrd-translator-scammers.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I also came across some excellent tips on the <a href=\"http:\/\/elanex.com\/EN\/wp-elanex-translator-scam.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">elanex<\/a> website:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"tr_bq\"><p>\n For translators, some simple steps we advise are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n  Instead of publicly posting your resume or CV, make your resume<br \/>\navailable on request or alternatively publish only protected files.<\/li>\n<li>\n  Exercise reasonable caution when accepting new assignments from<br \/>\nunknown sources. Does the request come from a legitimate business or<br \/>\nagency? Are payment details determined in advance?<\/li>\n<li>\n  If contacted by an agency who wishes to market your CV, verify the<br \/>\nagency and representative identity by checking translation forums,<br \/>\nJoao\u2019s website, agency registration numbers, Google, and other services.<\/li>\n<li>\n  A translation firm or direct business client will typically ask the<br \/>\ntranslator to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and the more<br \/>\nprofessional organizations will often include a service level agreement<br \/>\n(SLA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For buyers of translation services, we advise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n  Be cautious in advance if accepting translators with word rates far<br \/>\nbelow professional average. Professional translators should be fairly<br \/>\ncompensated for their skills.<\/li>\n<li>\n  Promises of \u201cperfect translation\u201d should be met with healthy<br \/>\nskepticism. Just as multiple authors can create content written in<br \/>\ndifferent ways that convey the same message, different translators can<br \/>\nproduce translations that faithfully represent the intent of the<br \/>\noriginal author with different phrasing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nI hope none of you have been or will be affected by this &#8211; the damage not least of all to one&#8217;s reputation is very hard to undo!<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scams are unfortunately no longer a rarity even in the translation business.
