{"id":9759,"date":"2017-11-25T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-25T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musik.a-z-translation.com\/the-future-of-translation\/"},"modified":"2020-01-03T11:37:59","modified_gmt":"2020-01-03T11:37:59","slug":"the-future-of-translation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.a-z-translations.com\/en\/the-future-of-translation\/","title":{"rendered":"The future of translation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have recently posted about the <a href=\"https:\/\/a-z-translations.blogspot.cz\/2017\/10\/rosy-future-for-human-translation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rosy future for translators<\/a>, despite the recent rise of no-longer-quite-as-terrible-gibberish-producing machine translation, and at the SDL Roadshow I attended this week in Munich, the statistics also confirmed that translation (and related fields) is a strongly growing industry and there will be plenty of work to go around in the future.<\/p>\n<p>I am by far not the only one writing and thinking about this topic, and opinions vary, yet the one thing almost everyone agrees on is that we will not be able to escape MT in the long run (except perhaps in some very specialized and creative areas).<br \/>\nThe real question therefore is how we as translators will deal with this.<\/p>\n<p>Post-editing is more and more becoming a skill of which every translator should at least have some knowledge, and some may even decide to concentrate on that instead of on the traditional approach to converting a text from one language into another.<\/p>\n<p>My colleague <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hippe-heisler.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elisabeth Hippe-Heisler<\/a> has recently posted about her experience with one of the new neural MTs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deepl.com\/translator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DeepL<\/a>, on her <a href=\"http:\/\/hippe-heisler.blogspot.cz\/2017\/09\/deepl-tool-or-threat-for-translators.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blog<\/a>, which is very much worth a read. Her conclusion: &#8220;<i>If computers are indeed becoming more and more capable of taking over<br \/>\nthe boring bits of our work, then this can only be a welcome move<br \/>\nforward.
